BROADBAND AND DATA

Broadband is fast becoming a business necessity, and Strata Communications understands that with new technologies such as bonded ADSL, Ethernet based Leased Lines and fibre it is becoming increasingly complex to find the best solution for your business needs.

At Strata Communications we not only understand the broadband business and its emerging technologies, but also share the vision of how superfast connections can be used to improve productivity and reduce costs of other business communications.

There are numerous different data connections available most of which can be used for data, video and voice communications:

ADSL/ADSL2+

Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line is the most basic and dominant connectivity in the UK, it will give you the highest possible speed your line will sustain. The difference between ADSL and ADSL2+ is the MAXIMUM speeds achievable - these are around 7.5 Mbps and 16 Mbps download respectively (both will achieve a similar max upload speed of around 800Kbps).

SDSL

Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line is aimed at customers requiring more upload speeds due to the fact upstream and downstream is symmetrical (generally 2Mbps upload and download).

FIBRE OPTIC

Openreach are fast rolling out fibre connections to local cabinets - this means only a small distance requires copper cabling and speeds are much improved. A typical Strata Fibre connection in enabled areas will achieve speeds between 20Mbps and 40Mbps download and 5Mbps and 10Mbps upload.

ETHERNET LEASED LINE

Leased Lines are a premier connectivity service ideal for organisations wishing to consolidate data and voice connectivity over a secure, fast and reliable private line, typically connecting two locations. The advantage of a leased line is speed, security and stability; it is a dedicated ‘always on’ data line providing symmetrical data flow and usually terminates with an Ethernet.

BONDED LINES AND IP FAILOVER

More and more bandwidth-hungry programs and applications are meaning a lot of businesses are finding themselves requiring more bandwidth than a single ADSL circuit can provide, however higher bandwidth connections such as leased lines are still financially unviable.

A much cheaper alternative is to combine multiple ADSL or SDSL lines and a specific routing appliance to bond the lines into a single virtual connection; this can also provide a level of resilience because if one DSL circuit fails you still have connectivity, albeit at reduced speed.
